History of breed

The bunny rabbit comes from Belgium and was, like the giant rabbit, bred by selection from country rabbits. After Joppich Belgian hares, rabbits were mentioned in the rich red coloring for the first time in 1860. The completion of today's typical body shape happened in Britain, where large quantities were exported for slaughter rabbits from Belgium in the 19th century (after Joppich 1870-1880 ). Joppich Wilkens cited that in 1874 the brothers Lunsh the first red-colored animals received from transportation Belgian slaughter rabbits in Grimsby. In 1890 it came to the so-called " Belgian Hare boom " in which a flourishing export of animals began in the U.S., where the rabbit rabbit was considered a particularly good economic race. After Germany, the import was performed by the Leipzig publishers ( especially small animal literature) Dr. Fritz Poppe the Animals 1900 in Leipzig showed for the first time. The breeding of the breed took a broad upswing; however, it was classified as a sport race after 1933 from Reichsfachaussschuss rabbit Reich Association of German small animal breeders and thus lost to dissemination. Today bunnies rabbits are regularly at exhibitions; the red-brown color shock is the most common.
