Belgian League Cup

The Belgian League Cup in football was introduced in 1975, shortly after the founding of the Pro League under the name of the Coupe de la Ligue Pro, but canceled after one season. In 1985 and 1986 the competition was played again.

From 1998 to 2000, the competition was re-introduced. This time he was called Coupe de la Ligue Professionnell. In these three issues is the winner qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup.

Due to lack of interest and problems with financing through television revenue of the competition was reinstated in 2000. A proposal from Standard Liege in 2010, to introduce competition instead of play-offs in the league again, was rejected by the other clubs.
