Belgrade International Theatre Festival

The Beogradski Internacionalni Teatarski Festival ( Belgrade International Theatre Festival, short BITEF ) is an international theater festival, which takes place in Belgrade since 1967.

1967 was decided in Belgrade from the town meeting to hold a theater festival. Since then, every year in September, the festival takes place. There classics as well as experimental theater are listed. The program will be held in various theaters and buildings in the city and since 2008 also in other cities such as Niš and Novi Sad.

The main program consists of about ten productions, chosen by the heads of the festival. There are other programs such as the Showcase, where the latest productions of the Serbian theater will be presented and the project ENPARTS (European Network of Performing Arts ), which was developed with five other European partners under the coordination of the Venetian Biennale. Furthermore, there are Bitef polifonija as a basis for discussion for young theater people and the discourse about the basics of theater and other developments, and since 1976 Bitef na filmu as an introduction to theater productions in the film. Furthermore, tables, presentations, symposia and multimedia exhibitions are organized at the festival working groups, round.

During the festival, the Grand Prix " Mira Trailović " for the best performance and the Specijalna nagrada for the best contribution to the art of theater will be awarded. There is also the Audience Award Nagrada publike and awarded by the magazine Politika Price Politikinu nagradu.

The festival also took place during the civil war in Yugoslavia in the 1990s.
