Belhara Perdun, or simply just Belharra, is a reef off the French Atlantic coast and also the name of there breaking wave.

Location

The reef is located near Socoa, a town in the French department of Pyrénées- Atlantiques, between Hendaye and Saint -Jean -de- Luz. Belharra is 2.5 km off the coast in the open Atlantic. The Spanish border is only about five kilometers southwest of the reef. In the area of the reef, the water depth is about 14 to 18 meters. The surrounding sea bottom drops to over 20 meters. The entrance to the bay of Saint -Jean -de -Luz runs not far from the rocky reef.

Surfing

On days with a corresponding swell breaks over the reef one of the biggest surfable waves in the world. The required swell is rarely achieved in the Atlantic. In some years, the shaft did not break because of it. On 22 November 2002, the wave was surfed for the first time .. The shaft can break with a height of 20m.

In calm water, the reef is also the goal of divers.
