Belinda Stronach

Belinda Stronach PC ( born May 2, 1966 in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada ) is a Canadian businesswoman and politician.

Career

Belinda Stronach is the daughter of Frank Stronach, founder of Magna International, a subcontractor to the automotive industry, which is in Aurora, Ontario, north of Toronto, a resident. Your mother's name Elfriede (born Sallmutter ).

She studied at York University a year, then abandoned their studies, in order to work at Magna. She speaks English and German. At Magna she sat from 1988 to 2004 the Supervisory Board and also worked in management. From February 2001 to 31 December 2010 was Stronach Member of the Supervisory Board and Vice Chairman of Magna International.

Policy

Belinda Stronach applied in January 2004 to the presidency of the newly formed Conservative Party and landed behind Stephen Harper in second place. In the election to the Canadian Federal Parliament on 28 June 2004 they conquered as a conservative candidate by a narrow margin the seat in the district Newmarket- Aurora.

On May 17, 2005, she joined the Liberal Party and was immediately led by Prime Minister Paul Martin to the Canadian Minister of State Employees ( Ministry of Human Resources and Skills Development ) appointed.

In the parliamentary elections on 23 January 2006, the Liberals lost their majority government, but Stronach was her seat - now for the Liberals - defend. After that, it was considered as a possible successor to the retiring Paul Martin as leader of the Liberals, but renounced his candidacy in April 2006.

On April 11, 2007, Ms. Stronach announced its intention to re- return to the management of Magna International and not to stand at the next general election.

Family

Stronach has been divorced twice. Her first husband Donald J. Walker was active in the leadership of Magna International. From this marriage her two children, Frank and Nikki come. From 1999 to 2003 she was married to the Norwegian speed skating legend Johann Olav Koss.
