Bell 214

The Bell 214 is a medium -lift helicopter, Bell Helicopter, which was derived from the Bell UH -1 series. The Bell 214ST is a larger and heavily modified twin-engine version, which was presented on 22 December 1972.

History

The development of the model 214 was started by Bell in 1970 under the name " Huey Plus". The first prototype was a Bell 205- cell, which was equipped with a 1900 WPS strong T53 -L- 703- shaft turbine. Then a 2930 WPS was later used strong turbine.

After a demonstration of the prototype, the 214A during a maneuver in Iran there was an order for 287 pieces 214A. These should be built in the Bell plant in Fort Worth, while another 50 214As and 350 214ST should then be built in Iran under license. After the delivery of 296 machines of 214A and 39 copies of the 214C it came to the Islamic Revolution, after which an Iranian production plans could not be implemented.

Construction

Variants

  • Bell 214B BigLifter - civil version of the 214A; produced about 70 pieces
  • Bell 214B -1 - version of the Bell Model 214B; limited to a maximum of 5670 kg total weight.
  • Bell 214ST - was variant, but later marketed civil twin-engine, which was originally developed for production in Iran. ST was initially for Stretched Twin, later for Super transport. The first flight took place in February 1977.

Use

An estimated 50 Bell 214As and 25 Bell 214Cs are still in use in Iran. Around 40 Bell 214Bs still flying in civilian use.
