Bell mouth seen from the Jura

Bell mouth ( in local dialect Bämung [ ˌ b̥æmʊŋ ]; French Belmont ) is a village and a municipality in the administrative district of Biel / Bienne in the Swiss canton of Bern.

Geography

Bell mouth lies on a terrace between the Jäiss or Jensberg and the top wood south of Biel / Bienne. The neighboring communities of North Clockwise starting at the noisy port, Jens, Merzligen, Hermrigen, Sutz- Lattrigen and Ipsach.

History

First traces of settlement date back to Roman times, called a medieval fortification, Chnebelburg, located on top of the Jäissberg. More recently, the foundations of a church have been found on Hohlenweg, hence the Abtstab coat of arms. 1107 was the priory of the monastery of Cluny apud Bellum Montem, the beautiful mountain ' expanded, but then moved before 1127 at St. Peter's Island.

Population

The agglomeration municipality has 1546 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) and is German to 89.93 %. 6.5 % of the population are French-speaking.

The voter shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 26.9 %, FDP 16.6 %, SP 16.5 %, BDP 15.0 %, glp 8.3 %, GPS 5.8 %, EPP 2.8 %, CVP 2.4 %, EDU 2.4 %, pirates 1.2 %.
