Bellone

The white grape Bellone is an indigenous variety from Italy. The name is derived from bello, the Italian word for beautiful or pretty. The grape was probably already described by Pliny the Elder in his Naturalis historia work.

The late-ripening variety is cultivated only in Lazio on an area of ​​about 2500 hectares (as of 1998), where they in numerous Denominazione di origine controllata (short DOC) wines such as Anzio, Cervereti, Colli Lanuvini, Cori Bianco, Marino, Nettuno, Velletri and Zagarolo is approved.
