How many population centers in the Comarca " La Safor " near the coast, Piles also has a beach settlement by the sea. This is situated between Playa de Guardamar de la Safor and Playa de Miramar. The old town, known by locals simply as " pueblo ", is located about 3.3 kilometers further inland. First line to the sea are mainly multi-storey residential buildings, but also in some smaller cottages, separated only by a promenade of the beach and sea. At the Plaza de la Marina is a children 's playground as well as a tourist information center.

History

The determination of the origin is difficult. Firstly, the archive was destroyed by fire, on the other hand, there are hardly any archaeological remains. However, a 1984 Moorish discovered necropolis indicates an Islamic origin. In 1486 it was bought by the Duke of Gandia. In a paper from this period for the first time the old Arabic name Sotaia was replaced by the present. After the expulsion of the Moors in 1609, the place was a ghost town. This is not surprising when you consider that 165 families had only four Christian roots. The repopulation by Catalan and mallorquisische emigrants after 50 years, only about 30 % of the original population out. Since then, the population is growing steadily.

Traffic

The national road N -332 leads through Piles and connects the city with the surrounding communities such as Oliva or Gandia, but also with Valencia.
