Belu Regency

Belu is an administrative district ( kabupaten ) in the Indonesian part of West Timor. It is part of the province of East Nusa Tenggara and was established in 1958. The county is named after Belu, the old colonial name given to the eastern part of the island of Timor. The word comes from the Tetum and means friend.

On 14 December 2012, the new government of Belu district Malaka was separated.
