Belvedere Castle

Belvedere Castle is located on the second highest elevation ( Vista skirt) in Central Park in New York City and about 250 meters west of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, between the park by crossing 79th Street and the Turtle Pond. North of the castle, on the opposite bank of the Turtle Ponds on the Delacorte Theater, an outdoor stage, are provided at the free summer Shakespeare performances.

It was designed by Calvert Vaux - one of the two landscape designers of Central Park - designed and built in 1869 of slate, which was recovered during excavation of the ponds at the Central Park design.

The Belvedere Castle is home to the Central Park Learning Center. In the " Discovery Chamber" a survey of the fauna of the park is on offer. Since 1992, the Weather Station (New York Meteorological Observatory) is located in the castle.
