Ben Adams (track and field)

Ben Adams (actually Benjamin Willard Adams, born March 31, 1890 in Newark, New Jersey, † March 15, 1961 in Neptune City, New Jersey) was an American track and field athlete, specialized in the disciplines stand high jump and standing long jump. In both sports, Adams won medals at the 1912 Olympic Games: bronze in the standing long jump and silver in the state high jump. In the latter discipline he lost it only to his brother Platt Adams, who won gold.

Ben Adams was a member of the New York Athletic Club, which has produced numerous Olympic champion today. In his time, Adams was one of the most successful athlete there. The double victory in the state high jump with his brother Platt in 1912 has gone down in the history of the Olympic Games. It marks the only assignment of the first two places an athletics competition by siblings.

Ben Adams joined the Summer Olympic Games in 1912 not only in the two regular jump disciplines, but also took on Vorführturnier part in baseball, where no medals were awarded.

After the Summer Games 1912, the jumps were removed from the supernatant from the Olympic program.
