Ben Ainslie

Charles Benedict "Ben" Ainslie, CBE ( born February 5, 1977 in Macclesfield ), called King Ben is an English sailor who won five Olympic medals since 1996.

Life

Ben Ainslies Father Roderick took part in the first Whitbread 1973 Round the World Race. Ben started with eight years in Cornwall with the sailing, took twelve years for the first time at World Youth championships, with 16, he was world champion with the Laser Radial. In 1995 he became Junior World Champion with the standard laser. In 1996 he won in the age group of adults bronze at the World Championships. In the Olympic Regatta 1996, he delivered himself in a laser duel with the Brazilian world champion Robert Scheidt, whom he defeated in short supply. On the last day of the regatta Ainslie needed to win one of two places better placement than Scheidt, to win even gold, but both were already disqualified at the start.

1997 Ben Ainslie again finished third at the World Championships, Melbourne 1999, Ainslie could then defeat Scheidt and was first world champion. In Europe, Ainslie was dominant, it was 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000, respectively European champions. 2000 Scheidt won the World Championship title back, Ainslie again finished third. Prior to Sydney at the Olympic Regatta 2000 Ainslie was then able to defeat again Scheidt, Ainslie won his first Olympic gold medal.

Then Ainslie rose in the Olympic Finn dinghy also class and took on the larger boat to 15 kilos. In 2002 he became world champion for the first time with the Finn, 2003 to 2005 he was able to repeat this success. In between, he won the gold medal at the Olympic Regatta and 2004, Piraeus.

Ben Ainslie worked as a tactical advisor to the America's Cup for the New Zealand team, in 2009 he is to lead as skipper the British boat. At the Olympic sailing competition in Qingdao in 2008 he won his third gold medal, making it the most successful sailors from the United Kingdom. In 2012 he won - back in the Finn dinghy class - at the Summer Olympic Games in London for the fourth time in a row the gold medal ..
