Ben Chandler

Albert Benjamin "Ben" Chandler III. ( Born September 12, 1959 in Versailles, Kentucky) is an American politician. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Between 2004 and 2013 he was a representative of the State of Kentucky delegate in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Chandler was born as the grandson of the former governor of Kentucky, Happy Chandler, Versailles. He received his Bachelor of Arts and his Juris Doctor from the University of Kentucky. He then worked as a lawyer before he was from 1991 to 1995 as government auditors (State Auditor ) of Kentucky. In 1995 he was elected attorney general of his state, an office which he held until 2003.

In 2003 he was a candidate of the Democratic Party for the post of governor in Kentucky, but lost to Republican Ernie Fletcher. Fletcher announced, from his position as member of the U.S. House of Representatives. In the resulting by-election scheduled in February 2004, Chandler was able to then secure the victory against Alice Forgy Kerr, a member of the State Senate, Fletcher's seat and was then to 2013, representing the sixth district convention of Kentucky Member of the House of Representatives.

In the congressional elections of 2008 he was able to prevail against the Republican Jon Larson, where he scored a vote share of 65 percent. At the 2010 elections, he held up extremely tight with 50.1 percent of the vote against Republican candidate Andy Barr, who came to 49.9 percent. Just 600 votes separated the two candidates. The result was officially only after a recount. In the elections on November 6, 2012, the Chandler regarded as Blue Dog defeated in the second meeting his new challenger Andy Barr with over 11,000 votes behind. Mid-2013 was Chandler Director of the private Kentucky Humanities Council and is considered a possible candidate for the governorship of his state in 2015.
