Ben Sherman

Ben Sherman ( born October 3, 1925 as Arthur Bernard Sugarman in Brighton, † 1987) was an English fashion producer and founder of the eponymous English clothing company.

The person

Arthur Bernard Sugarman was born in 1925 as the son of an English merchant in Brighton. 1946 Sugarman emigrated to the United States via Canada. He became an American citizenship and changed his name to Ben Sherman. He married the daughter of a Californian clothes manufacturer and returned to his native town of Brighton in England. End of the 50s he bought in Brighton on a previous bankruptcy clothing factory and founded in 1963 the company Ben Sherman. 1975 Sherman left the company in order to pursue his private life in Australia.

The brand

The brand's success is not only due to the fact that well-known musicians (such as Paul Weller, Ray Davies of The Kinks) pleased with the products found, but that the products sold by Ben Sherman clothing in Mod (short for Modernist ) and skinhead circles and the ultras scene are greatly appreciated and to this day alongside other brands (such as Fred Perry ) as the standard clothing apply these youth cultures. Also in the Independent scene, the brand will love to wear. The flag of the UK and the colors red, white and blue often play a role in the design, as well as the character of the mods, the target ( originally the sign of the Royal Air Force).
