Ben Sombogaart
Ben Sombogaart ( born August 8, 1947 in Amsterdam) is a Dutch film and television director.
Life
Sombogaart studied at the Film Academy in Amsterdam. His directorial debut was the TV series Allemaal Tuig! ( from 1982). He was initially known by television and children's films, including Abeltje, Het Zakmes and Mijn Vader woont in Rio.
His film The Twins ( 2002), his first film for children audience, brought him international recognition, and was for the Oscar / Best Foreign Language Film nomination. Being successful in the Netherlands film De Storm on the floods of 1953 won an Outstanding Achievement Award film on the Stony Brook Film Festival 2010. His film Bride Flight 2008 was very successful in the Dutch cinemas. Abeltje, Het Zakmes, The Twins ( Best Director ) and Crusade in Jeans ( 2007) each received a Golden Calf at the Dutch Film Festival. Het Zakmes also received an Emmy Award.
