Ben is a song by Michael Jackson from 1972, which was written by Don Black and Walter Scharf. It was Jackson's first solo number -one hit of 14 in the U.S. and was released on the same album.
The song spent a week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 and held for eight weeks at No. 1 in Australia. In the UK Top 40, the song reached # 7
The song was used in the film Ben, based on Willard. At the Golden Globe Awards Ben won Best Original Song and was nominated in the category of Best Original Song for the Oscar in the category. Jackson sang the song live at the ceremony.

Actually, Ben had been written for Donny Osmond. However, he was on tour, and so there was no recording facilities, which meant that Michael Jackson, the song was offered. The single was a hit, and came to America and Australia, reaching number 1 Jackson Beginning with I Want You Back in 1970 with the Jackson 5, the youngest artist with a No. 1 hit and was with Ben the third-youngest solo artist with a number 1 hit. Only Stevie Wonder ( then 13 ) and Donny Osmond (then 14) were slightly younger. The song was released on many Michael Jackson CDs and DVDs. After Jackson's death, as Ben got in back in the charts, the singer Akon released a remixed with his and Jackson's voice. 1985 coverte Marti Webb the song, and he went - in the British charts - even higher than the original ( 5th place).
