Ben Tijnagel

Ben Tijnagel ( born June 12, 1964 in Nijmegen, † December 5, 2005 in Meerbusch, Germany ) was a Dutch hockey player. He was elected to the 1989/90 season most valuable player of the Dutch Eredivisie and was considered one of the best Dutch hockey player of all time. Tijnagel came on 5 December 2005 in a traffic accident on the A57 between Nijmegen and Cologne killed.

Career

Ben Tijnagel began his career as a hockey player in his hometown at the Nijmegen Devils, which until 1986 he was active from 1979 in the Dutch Eredivisie. With his team, he became Dutch champion in the 1983/84 season for the first time. Then the attacker played six years for the league rivals Rotterdam Pandas, with whom he 1987, 1989 and 1990, also won the Dutch league title as well as 1987, 1990 and 1991, the Dutch Cup competition. In the 1989/90 season he was also appointed to the best Dutch player of the Eredivisie. From 1992 to 1995 he ran again for Nijmegen and was again with his team in the 1992/93 season champion. In the meantime, he retired from professional hockey back, but ran in the seasons 1997/98 and 2001/ 02 again for Nijmegen in the Eredivisie and in 1998 for a total sixth time in his career by Dutch masters.

Internationally

For the Dutch national team, he played a total of 56 matches in which he reached 20 goals and 21 assists. He represented his native country at various World Ice Hockey Championships.
