Benedetto Accolti the Younger

Benedetto Accolti ( called the Younger; * October 29, 1497 in Arezzo, † September 21, 1549 in Florence ) was a Cardinal of the Catholic Church. He was also Archbishop of Ravenna.

Benedetto Accolti was the son of Michele Accolti and Lucrezia di Giovanni di Montevarchi Alamanni, grandson of the humanist Benedetto Accolti the Elder, and nephew of Cardinal Pietro de Accolti, who was his predecessor as Archbishop of Ravenna. He studied law in Florence and Pisa. Pope Clement VII raised him during his first consistory on May 3, 1527 cardinal of the titular church of St. Eusebio. In 1535 he was taken into custody under mysterious circumstances, but was released a few months later and compensated with a large amount of money. He left behind some writings in Latin, which published some poems in the collection Quinque Illustrium poetarum carmina in 1562 in France.

His body is buried in Florence in the basilica of San Lorenzo.
