Benedetto Antelami

Benedetto Antelami was Italian sculptor and one of the few artists whose names are known to the Roman era.

From his life, only it is clear that he worked from 1178 until shortly after 1200 in Parma and the Southern French architecture and sculpture must have known very well, but was also familiar with the ancient world.

His most important works include the bishop's throne in the cathedral of Parma, the facade of 1196 he had built the Baptistery in Parma and the façade sculptures of the cathedral of Borgo San Donnino at Parma, which he began in 1198.

He has influenced the Romanesque sculpture in Italy sustainable.
