Benedetto Lorenzelli

Benedetto Cardinal Lorenzelli ( born May 11, 1853 in Badi, Province of Bologna, Italy, † September 15, 1915 in Bucciano, province of Benevento, Italy) was Archbishop of Lucca and later became a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Benedetto Lorenzelli studied in Bologna, Rome and at the University of Laval in Canada, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. He received his doctorate in Catholic theology, philosophy, canon law and civil law. In 1876 he received the sacrament of Holy Orders. From 1884 he was the first rector of the newly established College for the Czech students ( Collegium Bohemicum ) in Rome. In 1889 he received the title of Papal Chamberlain and private appointment as attaché at the Apostolic Nunciature in Austria. From 1890 to 1893 he worked as a clerk at the Supreme Court of the Apostolic Signature, 1893, he was Internuncio in the Netherlands.

1896 he was appointed by Pope Leo XIII. Apostolic Nuncio Apostolic Nunciature in Munich for. In the same year Benedetto Lorenzelli was appointed titular Bishop of Sardis. He received his episcopal consecration on December 8, 1896, Cardinal Mariano Rampolla del Tindaro. From 1899 to 1904 Lorenzelli performed the duties of the Apostolic Nuncio in France.
