Benedict Cumberbatch

Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch ( born July 19, 1976 in London, England ) is a British actor.

Life

Cumberbatch is the son of actors Timothy Carlton and Wanda Ventham. He attended Harrow School and the University of Manchester. Then he graduated from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art His first experience in television he gathered in 2000 in an episode of the British soap opera heartbeat. In 2003 he received a role in To Kill a King with Tim Roth and Dougray Scott and starred in Dr. Slippery the son of Hugh Laurie. His breakthrough came in 2004 with the celebrated Hawking - The search for the beginning of time, a biopic about the scientist Stephen Hawking. For this purpose, Cumberbatch was nominated as " Best Actor " at the BAFTA Awards. In 2005 he played the title role in the miniseries To The Ends of The Earth, based on the eponymous book series of the author William Golding. In 2007, he starred in the role of William Pitt in the drama Amazing Grace. Since 2010 he plays the title role in Sherlock, one based on Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes series. In Peter Jackson's film adaptation of Tolkien 's novel The Hobbit, it represents the dragon Smaug using performance capture and speaks the necromancer. In the sequel to Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, he is the villain John Harrison aka Khan dar. In 2013 he played in Steve McQueen's film drama 12 Years a Slave, which was awarded the Oscar for best film.

In Danny Boyle 's production of Frankenstein at the Royal National Theatre in London, he played the main characters Victor Frankenstein or Frankenstein's monster in the evening, alternating with Jonny Lee Miller. Both were hailed by the critics and jointly received the Evening Standard Theatre Award for the year 2011 and the Olivier Award.
