Benedikt Rejt

Benedikt Ried (also: Rejt, Ried of Piesting ) (* 1454, † October 30, 1534 in Laun, Bohemia ) was a German - Czech architect of the late Gothic and Renaissance.

Life

Benedikt Ried may have been born around 1454 in Landshut and has perhaps contributed in 1480 to the development of the fortifications in Burghausen. He was probably first established around 1485 as a specialist for the new artillery Rondelle to Prague and gained great influence in the revival of the art work there. He was committed to the construction of Kutna Hora St. Barbara's Church, and later with the execution of many " imperial buildings". The church of St. Nicholas in Laun he completed from 1520 to 1528. Too, for the construction of the Vladislav Hall and Ludwig tract he was responsible. A small alleys on the southeast slope of the Prague Castle is still today named after him. In Laun he acquired the civil rights and became known as " Benedict of Laun ". He died in 1534 and his tomb is located in the Church of St. Nicholas Laun.
