Benedikt Schack

Benedict Emanuel Schak, also Schack written, (* 1758 in Mirotice, Bohemia, † 1826) was a mainly acting in Vienna tenor and composer.

Life

Schak 1773 was Choralist at Vitus in Prague. He studied 1775 /? medicine and philosophy in Vienna and took composition and singing lessons with Karl Frieberth. 1780 Schak was Kapellmeister of Prince Henry of Schoenaich - Carolath in Lower Silesia. After dissolution of the Chapel (1784 ), he moved as a music shop across the country. In May 1786, he was engaged in Salzburg from the theater director Emanuel Schikaneder, in his ensemble, he went to Augsburg and Regensburg. As Schikaneder in May 1789 announced his contract in Regensburg, accompanied him Schak to Vienna. There, in the theater at the Wieden he sang on 30th September 1791 in the premiere of Mozart's Magic Flute, the role of Tamino. Contrary to widespread misunderstanding Schak was not flutist and did not play in the role of Tamino and even the flute.
