Benedito Novo is a municipality in the Brazilian state of Santa Catarina.

Benedito Novo is located at 26 ° 46 ' 58 '' south latitude and 49 ° 21' 50'' west longitude at an altitude of 130 meters above sea level. Name

The place derives its name from the eponymous river Rio Benedito, the "blessed" than for his Fischreichstums ( benedito ) was considered. That is why the town was known then Benedito Novo or Beneditto Novo or Novo Benedicto.

History

The territory of the municipality of Novo Benedito was colonized by Frederico Donner, the Rio Benedito went to the founding of the city timbó up and had built several branches. The early settlers of the region were German from Saxony, Mecklenburg, Vorpommern, Brandenburg and Baden, who settled there from 1876 to 1891. Thus, the actual founding of the town from the 1880s can be set.

1922, the newly created district Benedito - timbó was incorporated into the municipality of Blumenau. 1961 Benedito Novo was elevated to a stand-alone management community.
