Bénéwendé Stanislas Sankara

Bénéwendé Stanislas Sankara ( born February 23, 1959 in Toessin, Passoré ) is a politician from Burkina Faso ( Upper Volta until 1984 ). Since 2000 he has been party president of the Union pour la Renaissance / Mouvement sankariste.

Life

Sankara came in 1959 Toessin, a small village near the provincial capital Yako, to the world. After successfully completing his undergraduate studies in Ouagadougou he continued his law studies in Abidjan, where in 1987 he successfully completed a postgraduate degree in private law. In 1988 he became licensed attorney. Then he left West Africa and worked among others in Paris as an intern. In 1992 he returned to Burkina Faso and joined the Bar Association of Burkina Faso. Since 1994 he runs his own law office in Ouagadougou.

Political career

Was first politically active Bénéwendé Stanislas Sankara Sankara with the revolution in 1984, after which he took over as chairman of the Committee for the Defense of the Revolution (Comité de Défense de la Révolution, CDR ) at the Law Faculty of the University of Ouagadougou. When he left in 1986 to continue his studies, Burkina Faso, he resigned this office.

Visible politically active, he was again in 1998 after the assassination of Norbert Zongo, a prominent opposition journalist. In September 2000, he was among the founders of the small party of the Convention Partis Sankaristes, CPS, however, which he served for a short time. In November 2000, he founded the today most important sankaristische party, the Union pour la Renaissance / Mouvement sankariste which he presides today. For this party, he was elected to the National Assembly in 2002. In 2005 he resigned as parliamentarians and presented himself to the 2005 presidential election as a candidate. He managed with a voter share of just under five per cent ranks second behind the incumbent and re-elected President Blaise Compaoré. In the presidential elections of November 21, 2010 Sankara ended up with 6.34 per cent in third place behind incumbent Blaise Compaoré Hama Arba Diallo and from the PDS.

Private

Sankara is married to Olga Sankara, a gynecologist who now works as a program manager for the United Nations Population Fund ( UNFPA) in the field of health care. Together they have three children.
