Bengt Berger

Bengt Berger ( pronunciation: [ ˌ bɛŋ ː t ː ʝəɹ bæɹ ], born August 31, 1942 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish drummer, composer and producer of world jazz.

Life and work

Berger studied Indian classical music (from North and South India ) at Taranath Rama Rao and Vidwan PS during the 1960s Devarajan; he got there, the percussion instruments tabla and mridangam. In the 1970s he worked extensively with African musical traditions, especially the West African xylophone and percussion of the Ewe Brong- Ahafu and Lo Birifor traditions in Ghana.

Bengt Berger first played with the band Arbete & Fritid, with whom he released an album in 1970 on the Sonet label and at Rena Rama, which he founded with Bobo Stenson Palle Danielsson and to the then met Lennart Åberg and Leroy Lowe. He also was a member of the band by Don Cherry, and was at its albums Organic Music Society (1972) and Eternal Now (1973 ) involved and then belonged to the group Spjärnsvallet. In the early 1980s he founded the band Bitter Funeral Beer; with her and Don Cherry, he participated in the 1982 for the jazz label ECM on the eponymous album; In the same year he performed with the band on the German Jazz Festival in Frankfurt. Berger also worked as a producer of the record label Country & Eastern, on numerous albums with African folk music, Indian classical music as well as jazz, folk and improvised music published. He also wrote music for theater and dance productions.
