Bengt Hägglund

Bengt Vilhelm Hägglund ( born November 22, 1920) is a Swedish Lutheran theologian.

Life and meaning

After completing his PhD at the University of Lund in 1951 Hägglund was first an assistant professor, in 1958 representatives of a professorship in Lund. After a guest lecturer at the University of Heidelberg he returned in 1960 as a research fellow to Lund back. Further guest stays in Mainz, Leipzig, Rostock and Greifswald followed. 1969-1987 Hägglund was a professor of the history of ideas of Christianity ( kristendomens idéhistoria ) in Lund.

Hagglunds research focuses on the theology of Martin Luther and the Lutheran orthodoxy and methodological issues of dogmatics. His most popular book Teologins historia ( first 1956) was, among other things translated into English, German, Portuguese, Latvian and Russian.

Hägglund from 1975 to 1995 Vice-Chairman of the Luther Academy Ratzeburg. He has been awarded honorary doctorates from the Universities of Bochum and Saint Louis and in 2007 the Hermann Sasse Prize of the Independent Evangelical Lutheran Church.
