Bengt Lidner

Bengt Lidner (* March 16, 1757 in Gothenburg, † January 4, 1793 in Stockholm) was a Swedish poet.

Life

He studied from 1774 to 1775 in Lund. There, however, he gave himself up to a messy life, which is why he was sent in 1776 as sailors to the East Indies. However, he ran away from the Cape, and studied 1776 - 1779 in Greifswald. He then went to Stockholm and was hired in 1779 in the war expedition. King Gustav III. granted him a scholarship, so he could drive in 1780 to Göttingen to study drama. After a year he had to flee from there its debts and was appointed secretary of the Swedish legation in Paris, where in 1781 his Lidner tragedy " Erik XIV" wrote, but was soon sent back because of his poor performance in Stockholm. In 1787 he went to Finland, where he married and in 1789 returned to Stockholm. He died there on January 4, 1793 in extreme poverty.

Works

Lidner was a highly gifted by nature poet; but his poetry was messy as his life, and his creations are missing attitude and character. Deserve highlighting, inter alia:

  • " Spastaras död " (1783 )
  • " Året 1783 "
  • " Yttersta domen "
  • The opera " Medea "

The Swedish Academy erected a monument to him at the Adolf Fredrik's Church, in Stockholm. His " Samlade Skrifter " have appeared in many editions; the eighth was published in 1878. A text- critical edition in four volumes published from 1930 to 1992 by Svenska Vitterhetssamfundet.
