Beniamino Andreatta

, Usually called Beniamino Andreatta Nino Andreatta, ( born August 11, 1928 in Trento, † March 26, 2007 in Bologna ) was an Italian economist and politician.

Career

Andreatta studied law at the University of Padua and Economics at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and at the University of Cambridge. He worked as a lecturer at the Catholic University and at the Universities of Urbino, Trento and Bologna, he was also the founder and rector of the University of Calabria. He became a corresponding member of the Accademia degli Roveretana Agiati 1968.

At the beginning of the 1970s Andreatta was economic adviser to the government Moro. This pushed his rise in the Christian Democrats, for which he held a seat in Parliament 1976-1992 as deputy ( 1983-1987 ) and Senator ( 1976-1983, 1987-1992 ). From 1994 until his death he was again a member of the Chamber of Deputies.

In his political career Andreatta held various ministerial portfolios: From 1979 to 1980 he was in the government Cossiga budget minister, from 1980 to 1982 in the governments Forlani and Spadolini Treasury Secretary from 1992 to 1993, he was under Giuliano Amato again budget minister from 1993 to 1994 Foreign Minister of the government Ciampi. One of his closest associates in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was Enrico Letta.

His economic ideas influenced the later Prime Minister Romano Prodi, he served as defense minister in his first term, from 1996 to 1998 - after the collapse of the Christian Democrats now as a party member of the Partito Popolare Italiano.

On 15 December 1999 Andreatta suffered during a parliamentary session a severe attack and was after an ischemic stroke over seven years in a coma. On 26 March 2007, he died in the Polyclinic Orsola in Bologna.

His son Filippo Andreatta is a lecturer at the University of Bologna, writes for several Italian newspapers (including Corriere della Sera ) and is an exponent of the Partito Democratico.
