Benito Floro

Benito Floro Sanz ( born June 2, 1952 in Gijón ) is a Spanish football coach.

Career as a coach

Benito Floro began his coaching career in 1989 at Albacete Balompié. With this club he reached the direct walkthrough of the third- highest division, the Segunda División B, in the excellence of the Primera División. The second league championship in 1991 followed in 1992 a remarkable 7th place in the top league of Spanish football. These successes led to no less a club became aware of him as Real Madrid and signed him for the upcoming season as coach. With Madrid, he was in the 1992/93 season runner-up and led the team to victory in 1993 of the Copa del Rey and Supercopa de España. After 2 years at the Royal, he returned to his former workplace Albacete Balompié, where he held the coaching job for another 2 years until the descent of the association in the Segunda Division.

From 1996 to 2004 he was still active as a coach both in Spain and abroad (Japan, Mexico). He was sports director of football at Real Madrid section 2005. In this post he was only a few months worked since he did not want to stand in the way, following the resignation of then-president Florentino Pérez of future club leadership. In the meantime, he also worked as a football commentator for the Spanish private broadcaster Telecinco. In early 2009 he took the job as coach of Barcelona Sporting Club in Ecuador again. After a few months, the contract was canceled because the club had neither a sufficient planning structure nor the necessary means.

In mid-2010 he was associated with the national teams of Israel, Guatemala and Saudi Arabia.

In August 2013 he was appointed as coach of the Canadian national team.
