Benjamin Bailey (missionary)

Benjamin Bailey ( * 1791 in Dewsbury, † April 3, 1871 in Shienton, Shropshire ) was an English missionary in Kerala.

In 1815 he was ordained priest, and in 1816 he moved to Kerala, where he founded a mission station in Kottayam. He introduced in 1821 the printing press in Kerala a. He translated the Bible into Malayalam as first and printed them. In 1846 he wrote and printed the first English- Malayalam.

He spent a total of 34 years in South India.
