Benjamin Gunnar Cohrs

Benjamin Gunnar Cohrs ( born September 21, 1965 in Hameln ) is a German conductor, musician, musicologist and writer.

Training

Cohrs debuted in 1984 as a conductor with the orchestra of the music school in Hameln, where he received his first musical education in the subjects of flute, piano and music theory since 1972. He then founded the Youth String Orchestra Hameln, the aufführte to 1990 under his leadership works of the string and chamber orchestra repertoire. From 1986 to 1989 Cohrs studied conducting with Nicola Samale in Rome; 1989-1994 at the Academy of Arts Bremen concert conducting with Hans -Joachim Kauffmann, flute with Susanne Meier and singing with Hidenori Komatsu. His examination concert, which included the premiere of Bremer 's 5th Symphony by Ralph Vaughan Williams alongside works by Felix Mendelssohn, Jean Sibelius and Frank Martin, was recorded by Radio Bremen and aired several times. 1994 graduated Cohrs at the invitation of the University of Adelaide as a scholarship holder of the German Academic Exchange Service ( DAAD) a diploma course in musicology at Andrew D. McCredie. In 2009 he received a doctorate in historical musicology at the University of Hamburg.

Conductor

On 6 November 2000 Cohrs played with the Russian National Orchestra in the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatory his international concert debut as a conductor. His Japan debut with the Royal Flanders Philharmonic in Tokyo on 28 September 2001 included a workshop concert in which he conducted the Japanese premiere of fragment as well as completion of the Finale of Bruckner's 9th Symphony. On 8 October 2002, he conducted as part of a gala concert of the Upper Austrian Federal Bruckner in Gmunden the complete Bruckner 's Symphony No. 9, together with final completion. It has played the Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra Ostrava. In April 2004 he conducted in Sarajevo, the Sarajevo Symphony Orchestra with the premiere of the completed unfinished Symphony in B minor, D. 759 by Franz Schubert. On 20 and 21 September 2013, conducted in Bremen and Dortmund the premiere of his new version of the Requiem KV 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Music researcher and journalist

Since 1996, writes and moderates Cohrs for Radio Bremen, SWR, WDR programs and features. As a cultural journalist and science writer, he works for the daily press, internet magazines, journals, organizers and record companies. From 1995 to 2012 Cohrs employees of Anton Bruckner Complete Edition in Musicology Verlag Wien was (MWV ). There he presented, among others, a new edition of the Symphony No. 9 in D minor, a study tape to Scherzo and the audit report. He became known in particular as Bruckner researchers. From 1986 to 2008 he was involved in teamwork with Nicola Samale in developing the performance version of the unfinished final sentence of the 9th Symphony in D minor by Anton Bruckner; again a new revised edition was published in summer 2008. scientific series for the music concepts he presented on behalf of the previous editors, Heinz- Klaus Metzger and Rainer Riehn the triple stitching together 120/121/122 ( Bruckner's Ninth in purgatory reception, Munich 2003). Cohrs has also elaborated on the basis of original sources, new performance versions of the Unfinished Symphony in B minor, D 759 by Franz Schubert, the C minor, K. 427 and K. 626 Requiem of Mozart. Since 2012 Dr. Benjamin - Gunnar Cohrs Edition publisher and director of the Bruckner Edition Vienna, which appears in the publishing group Hermann ( Vienna).
