Benjamin Harrison V

Benjamin Harrison V ( born April 5, 1726 the Berkeley Plantation in Charles City County, Virginia; † April 24, 1791 ) was a North American plantation owner and a leader of the American Revolution. As one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence of the United States, he is one of the American Founding Fathers.

The son of Benjamin Harrison IV and Anne Carter and grandson of the plantation owner, Robert Carter III was educated at the College of William and Mary and was the first person in the family Harrison, the national notoriety gained. He lived all his life on the Berkeley Plantation, home of the Harrison family in Virginia, where his children were born. Harrison represented the Surry County and Charles City County from 1766 to 1776 in the House of Representatives. He was from 1774 to 1777 Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress, signed the Declaration of Independence and was from 1782 to 1784 Governor of Virginia.

His son William and his great-grandson Benjamin Harrison was President of the United States. His other son Carter Bassett Harrison also signed the Declaration of Independence. Peyton Randolph was his brother in law. His grandson, John Scott Harrison was a deputy in the Congress, as the great-grandson named after his son William Henry Harrison.
