Benjamin Lebert

Benjamin Lebert ( born January 9, 1982 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German writer.

His debut novel Crazy ( 1999) has been translated into 33 languages ​​, reaching by 2009 a total circulation of 1.1 million copies. Benjamin Lebert currently lives in Hamburg.

Life

Benjamin Lebert is a son of the journalist Andreas Lebert; his grandparents are the authors Ursula and Norbert Lebert.

His father was a co-founder of youth supplement now the Süddeutsche Zeitung. For these youth supplement Lebert wrote some posts. The publishing editor Kerstin Gleba ( Kiepenheuer & Malevich ) became aware of him Through these articles, and encouraged him to write a whole novel. In the autobiographical work Crazy Lebert processed typical adolescent problems, but also his disability, he is paralyzed on one side.

After the success of his first- the 17 -year-old Lebert taught courses at New York University for Creative Writing. At age 16, Benjamin Lebert had dropped out of school during the ninth grade not finish; he won in 2003 after the school certificate. After he left home, he lived for some time in Freiburg and Berlin and lives since then in Hamburg. Lebert is a founding member of the Lübeck literature meeting.
