Benjamin Markley Boyer

Benjamin Markley Boyer ( born January 22, 1823 in Pottstown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, † August 16 1887 in Norristown, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1865 and 1869 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Benjamin Boyer attended the common schools and then studied until 1841 at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. After a subsequent law degree in 1844 and its recent approval as a lawyer, he started working in disem profession. Between 1848 and 1850 he was a deputy district attorney in Montgomery County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. During the Civil War he was a captain in the state of Pennsylvania troops.

In the congressional elections of 1864 Boyer was in the sixth constituency of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Dodson Stiles on March 4, 1865. After a re-election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1869 two legislative sessions. During this time, ended the civil war in April 1865. Since 1865 the work of the Congress of the tensions between the Republicans and President Andrew Johnson was charged, which culminated in a narrowly failed impeachment.

In 1868, Benjamin Boyer gave up another candidacy. Since 1882 he was a judge in Montgomery County. He died on August 16, 1887 in Norristown.
