Benmont Tench
Benjamin Montmorency " Benmont " Tench III ( born September 7, 1953 in Gainesville, Florida) is an American keyboardist and songwriter.
Career
He is with Tom Petty and Mike Campbell founding member of the band Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers and has been active since 1975. Previously Petty, Campbell and Tench already played together in the band Mudcrutch. In addition to the band activity Tench works as a studio musician on piano and Hammond organ, among other things, Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, John Fogerty and Alanis Morissette.
Tench wrote pieces for Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, but also for other artists. 1985 reached the single written by Tench You Little Thief by Feargal Sharkey, the Top 5 in the UK and Australia. That same year, Rosanne Cash's single Never Be You ( Tench / Petty ) reached position 1 of the U.S. country charts.
In 1982 he was, together with Maria McKee of the founding members of the country rock band Lone Justice.
