Bennett's stingray

Dasyatis bennettii

Dasyatis bennettii (originally Trygon bennettii ) is a Stechrochenart and lives in the Indo-Pacific Ocean between India and Japan. Individual sightings are reported from Vanuatu and New Caledonia.

Features

Dasyatis bennettii reaches a maximum total length of 1.30 meters. It has a diamond-shaped pectoral fin disc of about the same length and width, which can reach 50 cm. The front seams of the disc are straight and end in a triangular snout, the rear hems are rounded towards the tail. The tail is whip-like, up to three times as long as the disc and carries a sting. The top is yellow- brown and becomes darker in the area of the tail, the underside is bright

Way of life

The Ray lives near the coast on the sea floor, some of them in the estuary near freshwater rivers. It hunts smaller fish and is ovoviviparous. About his life is generally very little known.
