Bennett Island

The Bennett Island (Russian Остров Беннетта, Yakut Беннетт арыыта ) is one among the De Long Islands belonging island in the New Siberian Islands. It lies in the northern part of the East Siberian Sea.

The Bennett Island is 150 km ², its highest point is 426 meters of De - Long Mountain ( Gora De - Longa ). The surface is glaciated.

The island was discovered in 1881 by the U.S. polar explorer George W. DeLong, which they named after the financier of the expedition, James Gordon Bennett Jr.. In the summer of 1902, here a four-member Russian expedition worked under the direction of Eduard von Toll, which has since been lost.
