Benno Wiss

Benno Wiss ( born July 13, 1962 in Dietwil ) is a retired Swiss cyclist who in 1984 won an Olympic silver medal.

1982 succeeded Benno Wiss his first victory when he won the first stage in the stage race Circuit Franco -Belge. 1983 won Wiss in the reservoir Tour Klingnau and the Circuit Franco -Belge. The Cycling World Championships in Altenrhein, he finished before his home crowd along with Othmar Haefliger, Daniel Heggli and Heinz Imboden second place in the team time trial behind the Soviet quad.

1984 Wiss repeated his victories in the reservoir Tour Klingnau and the Circuit Franco -Belge and won several one-day races. At the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles Wiss was the only rider from the Vice World Champion team of the previous year; together with Alfred Achermann, Richard Trinkler and Laurent Vial he came second behind the Italian four.

Immediately after the Olympics signed Benno Wiss a professional contract with the French team La Vie Claire. At the Tour de l' Avenir, he won two stages. In 1985, he won one each stage of the Tour de l' Avenir and the Tour of Denmark and took second place in the overall standings in the Tour du Limousin. With a ranking of 26 at the World Cycling Championships and 85th at the Giro d' Italia, he was less successful in the big race. In March 1986, Wiss ended his cycling career.

Honors

1983 Bruno Wiss was elected at the Track World Championships with Achermann, Trinkler and Vial for Swiss Team of the Year together with Imboden, Haeflinger and Heggli after her second place at the road World Championships and 1984 after finishing second.
