Bennungen is a town in the southern Harz in the district of Mansfeld- South Harz in Saxony- Anhalt.
Geography
Bennungen is north of Kyffhaeuser at the eastern section of the 13 km circuit Sangerhausen leading L 151 and the Halle- Kassel railway.
History
Bennungen was first mentioned in documents in 1112. The eponymous knights " of Bennungen " had its headquarters here.
On 1 January 2010, joined the communities Bennungen, Breitenstein, Breitungen, Dieter village, Drebsdorf, Hainrode, together Hayn ( resin) Kleinleinungen, Questenberg Roßla, Rottleberode Schwenda and Uftrungen the new community Suedharz. At the same time the management of community - Roßla Suedharz, belonged to the Bennungen was dissolved.

- Burial in the local cemetery for unidentified Jewish concentration camp prisoner
- Former mansion of the manor with partly to the 16th century of declining building stock. The half-timbered building was notgesichert in the 1990s as it was in danger of collapsing. The manor with the mansion now serves seminar purposes.

The town is the birthplace of the botanist Carl Heinrich servant and educator Oscar and Karl Linke.
