Benny Moten

Lemont Clarence ' Benny ' Moten ( born November 30, 1916 in New York; † March 27, 1977 ) was an American jazz bassist.

Moten, first played in 1941 at Hot Lips Page and Jerry Jerome, then from 1942 to 1949 in Henry Red Allen and Eddie South. In the fifties he worked with Stuff Smith, Ivory Joe Hunter, Arnett Cobb and Ella Fitzgerald and Wilbur De Paris. In the following decade he was employed by Buster Bailey, Dakota Staton, Roy Eldridge and later at Red Allen. He also took up with Rosetta Tharpe and JC Higginbotham.
