Benny Vansteelant
Benny Vansteelant ( born November 19, 1976 in Torhout in West Flanders, † September 14, 2007 in Roeselare ) was a Belgian duathlete, multiple Duathlon European Champion (1999, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2007 ) and duathlon world champion on the short - ( 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004 ) and long distance ( 2000, 2001, 2005, 2006).
Life
Between 1997 and 2007 he won eight times the Duathlon World Championship titles and was five times European champion.
On September 8, 2007 Benny Vansteelant was hit while cycling training in Hooglede by a car and seriously injured. After surgery Vansteelant seemed out of danger, died six days later in hospital from Roeselare but the consequences of the accident.
His six years younger brother Joerie is now one also for duathlon world's elite.
