Bente Nordby

Bente Nordby (born 30 July 1974) is a former Norwegian football player. The goalkeeper played for the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF / Älvsjö in the Damallsvenskan and in the Norwegian national team. Nordby was one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Career

Nordby began her career at the club Sprint / Jeløy (now FK Athene Moss). At 17, she celebrated her debut in 1991 in the Norwegian national team, with whom she became European Champion in the same year. Two years later, she celebrated with her club the first Norwegian championship. 1995 Nordby was with the Norwegian selection for a 2-0 victory over world champions Germany. Twice Nordby took part with the Norwegian national team in the Olympics. In Atlanta in 1996, she won bronze in Sydney 2000 even the gold medal.

After the Sydney Olympics Nordby moved to the U.S. WUSA, where she played for the Carolina Courage and San Diego Spirit. Following the bankruptcy of the WUSA, she returned to Norway and joined Kolbotn IL on. With Kolbotn she celebrated two more league titles, before she moved to Asker FK 2004. After relegation Asker FK Nordby moved to Stockholm Djurgårdens IF / Älvsjö. In January 2007, she announced plans to end her career at the end of the year. Your last match she made on 27 October 2007 in a 3-0 against Russia. With 172 international matches, it is the European goalkeeper with most international matches. Only the US-American Briana Scurry has played a game more.

Contrary to the original intention, she joined in early 2008 still for a half season to Olympique Lyon in France, where it replaced the injured tribe goalkeeper.
