Benthic lander

A Lander is an unmanned research unit for the exploration of the deep sea.

Lander are deducted from aboard a research vessel on the place of use on the seabed and are pulled by ballast weights to the sea floor ( so-called free-fall devices or bottom- Lander ). Some devices can also be accurately towed to the site and then discontinued. To use force after completion of the measurements, the weights are thrown away acoustically and the unit floats on using buoyancy balls to the ocean surface, where it is resumed from the research vessel. These are autonomous carrier systems and can be used for measuring and recording of values and for receiving samples. They can be used up to 6000 meters depth.
