Benton County (Oregon)

Benton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Oregon of the United States. In the 2000 census, the county had 78 153 inhabitants and a population density of 45 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Corvallis.

Geography

The county has an area of 1,759 square kilometers, of which 6 square kilometers of water surfaces. It is bordered to the south by Lane County, to the east Linn County, in the west and to the north by Lincoln County Polk County.

According to the census of 2000, there were 78 153 people in the county. There were 30,145 households, and 18,237 families. The population density was 45 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 89.16 % White, 0.84 % African American, 0.79 % Native American, 4.49 % Asian, 0.24 % Pacific Islander residents from the and 1.92 % percent from other ethnic groups; 2.56% were descended from two or more races. 4.66% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Of the 30,145 households out of which 28.40% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 50.40 % were married couples living together, 7.20 % had a female householder with no husband. 39.50 % were non-families. 26.10% of all households and 6.70% had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.43 and the average family size was 2.95 persons.

Based on the county the population was spread out with 21.30 % under the age of 18, 20.20 % from 18 to 24, 26.70 % from 25 to 44 years, 21.40% between 45 and 64 years and 10.30% were 65 years old or older. The average age was 31 years. For every 100 females there were 99.10 males, 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.80 males.

The median income for a household was $ 41,897, and the median income for a family was $ 56,319. Males have a median income of $ 42,018, women $ 29,795. The per capita income was $ 21,868. 14.60% of the population and 6.80% of families are below the poverty line. 10.60 % of those under age 18 and 4.90 % were 65 years or older.
