Bentonville is a city in Benton County in the U.S. state of Arkansas with 35,301 inhabitants ( 2010) and the county seat of administration ( County Seat). The metropolitan area has a size of 55.1 km ². The population has risen alone between 2000 and 2010 from 19,730 to 35,301, representing an increase of 78.9 percent.

History

The area on the Bentonville is today was once inhabited by the Osage Indians. Bentonville was named after Thomas Hart Benton, a senator from Missouri.

1834 Arkansas became independent. During the American Civil War Bentonville was conquered several times. Nearby was the 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge instead. Last Bentonville station was Sherman's conquest of 1864.

Museum

The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, designed by architect Moshe Safdie, opened in 2011. The museum's collection was compiled by the heiress to the Wal -Mart, Alice Walton, and is constantly being extended from its resources.

Economy

In Bentonville is the headquarters of the retail chain Wal- Mart, the world's umsatzstärkstem companies with annual sales of more than 421 billion U.S. dollars in fiscal year 2011. The massive population increase may be due in part to it. Similarly, some tourists come to Bentonville to visit the first store has opened to the founder of Wal- Mart Sam Walton in 1950.
