Benzene is a district of Walsrode in the district Heidekreis, Lower Saxony.

Location

The village is located south of the main town of Walsrode in the southwestern Lüneburg Heath. Here, Boehme in the Talsandebenen of Aller- glacial valley emerges from its comparatively narrow valley through the Lehmgeest the Heidmark. From near Walsrode benzene is separated by the forest Benzer Sunder. Northeast of the village lies 1 km away, the Federal Highway 27, in the east, the L 190, also 1 km away.

History

The place name probably comes from the Old German word Bendeffen, which means castle. Nearby there is a court stone at the site of Thingstätte, at the 1491 Holting was still held on June 17.

On March 1, 1974 benzene was incorporated into the city Walsrode.
