Benzie County, Michigan

Benzie County is a county located in the state of Michigan in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Beulah.

Geography

The County is located in the northwest of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan, on the west by Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes, and has an area of ​​2226 square kilometers, of which 1394 square miles are water. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Leelanau County, Grand Traverse County and Manistee County.

History

Benzie County was formed in 1863 from parts of Leelanau County. It was named after a small river in the area, the former French rulers had called the Riviere Aux Bec- Scies.
