Benzisothiazolinone belongs to the class of compounds isothiazolinones and is a widely used biocide.

Chemical Properties

Decomposition products may include carbon monoxide benzisothiazolinone, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and other toxic gases.

Use

Benzisothiazolinone has microbicidal and fungicidal activity and is used as a preservative in dispersion paints, lacquers, adhesives, detergents, fuels and in the production of paper. Add color blends often come with methylisothiazolinone used. The dosage is depending on the application and combination with other biocides 200 to 400 ppm. According to a study contained 2000 in Switzerland, 19% of paints, varnishes and coatings benzisothiazolinone. For adhesives, fillers and gaskets were 25%.
